Barcelona opened their first game at league with win over Sporting Gijon 3-0 at Nou Camp.

Chelsea Crushed Burnley 3-0

Three goals in seven minutes gave Chelsea a 3-0 Premier League home win over Burnley on Saturday. Nicolas Anelka, Michael Ballack and Ashley Cole scored either side of halftime for Chelsea, who made it four wins out of four under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Duo Brazil inspire AC Milan winning

Espanyol defender, Dani Jarque Died of heart attack

The skipper of Spanish, 26-year-old defender played for Espanyol, Dani Jarque, has died at the hotel where the team were staying in the town of Coviciana.

He was discovered in his room after team-mates realised he had not appeared for a meal. The club said that team doctors as well as Italian paramedics tried to revive Dani but without success.

"Based on the information provided the League has found no reason why Mr Al Fahim would be liable to be disqualified as a director of a Premier League club.
"Accordingly we have advised Portsmouth FC that his appointment may proceed. As with all changes in club ownership the Premier League will continue to monitor any material changes in circumstance."

Al Fahim was the initial figurehead of the Abu Dhabi United Group when they took control of Manchester City in the summer of 2008. He is no longer involved but did not drop his interest in the Premier League.

Middlesbrough striker Mido has finally returned to pre-season training. The mercurial Egypt international was fined two weeks' wages when he failed to turn up back at the club's Rockliffe Park headquarters with the rest of his team-mates on 6 July.

Manager Gareth Southgate confirmed at the weekend Mido would continue to be hit in the pocket until he did return, and coach Steve Agnew has confirmed that has now happened.

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill says he will not rush into making signings this summer.

O'Neill will take his players to Spain for the Peace Cup on Thursday, although Gabriel Agbonlahor, James Milner and Craig Gardner will stay at home to rest.
The manager is keen to bring in some new faces as quickly as possible but maintains that he would be prepared to bide his time if necessary.

"Will we have players in by Thursday? I don't know is the answer," O'Neill said.
"We want to try and strengthen the side and we will do our very best to do so but whether there's anybody in before Thursday or not I can't tell you.

"I don't get anxious. These things take time, like everything else, and you want to try and be as right as possible.
"If you are looking for immediate replacements for Martin Laursen and Gareth Barry, we are pressing on with that.

"We have enquired about quite a number of people and the ones we would like in I couldn't tell you that we would have anyone in by Thursday."
O'Neill feels he needs five new players and is not planning to let anybody leave until reinforcements have arrived.

He explained: "I think that if you have five quality players in that would be excellent. You're talking about players that could immediately take their place in a decent Premier League side.
"I would be hoping for everyone that goes out that we would be having at least somebody else coming back in again.

"Don't hold me to this, but I really probably wouldn't want to be losing players until we get some in. Do I want to end the window with bigger squad than last year? Without doubt."

French Cup winning coach Victor Zvunka believes his Guingamp side has every chance of upsetting Bordeaux in Saturday’s Champions Trophy clash in Montreal, Canada.

The Champions Trophy is the traditional curtain-raiser to the Ligue 1 season and pits the French champions against the French Cup winners. Guingamp defeated fellow Brittany club Rennes, 2-1 in the French Cup final at the Stade de France last May.

"The Champions Trophy is an official competition and there's a trophy up for grabs so we're going to give it everything we've got," claimed Zvunka. "Bordeaux are champions of France and the squad hasn't changed much during the off-season; they're a quality team.

"But the fact that the match is two weeks before the state of the season, perhaps both teams won't be 100 per cent ready and we might have a chance to pull off an upset."

Having already seen three of last season's stars leave the club over the summer, Zvunka, who recently signed a new 12-month deal with the Ligue 2 outfit, wants to wait before making any predictions for his club's inaugural Europa League campaign.

"Eduardo wanted to play in Ligue 1 so he has joined Lens, Lionel Mathis has returned to Sochaux at the end of his loan spell and [former Marseille midfielder] Wilson Oruma joined us to relaunch his career and it was time for him to move on," explained Zvunka.

"We've signed some good players such as [son of former France international Alain Giresse,] Thibaut Giresse, the Angolan international full-back Luis Delgado, defender Christophe Argelier and young Senegalese midfielder Moustapha Diallo.

"But until the squad is complete, I don't want to set any objectives," he continued. "The Europa League is a wonderful opportunity and we're not going to worry ourselves about it. We're going to go out there and give it everything we've got and try and go as far as we can."

The EAG defeated fellow Brittany club Brest on Saturday 3-1 in their fourth preseason friendly match.

Manchester United beat a Malaysia XI in their pre-season friendly on Monday 20 July 2009

Michael Owen was on the mark again as Manchester United wrapped up the Malaysian leg of their Far East tour with a comfortable 2-0 win over a Malaysia XI.
Owen got United's second, just two minutes after Federico Macheda's 11th-minute opener, which proved to be the end of the scoring for United, despite their domination. Anderson and Nani both missed decent opportunities near the end.

Speaking after the match, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the emergence of Macheda is one of the reasons why Manchester United have not spent big to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.
He said: "I am pleased that Macheda and Owen have struck up a good partnership.
"We have big hopes for Macheda. He is one of the reasons we didn't go into the market. He is strong, athletic and a good finisher.

"He played his part last season but he is just a young lad learning his game."
Ferguson was also pleased with Owen, who grabbed his second goal in two pre-season matches.
"It was a typical Michael Owen goal. He reacted first as he did the other night, his whole contribution was very good," he said.
